Cable's fiber optic upgrade has allowed them to pioneer other advanced services such as blazing fast high-speed Internet service; video on demand (VOD); digital video recorders (DVRs); digital voice service; and spectacular high definition television (HDTV). Cable's fiber optic network has been in place since the 1990s. Others are only now beginning to catch up.
