Cablevision Significantly Expands Optimum WiFi Coverage In New Jersey
New Level Of Service Solidifies Optimum As Fastest Internet Product
5/29/2009

BETHPAGE, NY - Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) today announced that it has significantly expanded the coverage area of its new Optimum WiFi service in New Jersey, expanding free wireless Internet access for Optimum Online customers to popular Shore Points and high-traffic and commercial locations in Morris, Ocean and Monmouth Counties. This follows earlier activations and the installation of thousands of WiFi access points across the company's Long Island, Connecticut and Westchester/Dutchess service areas.

Cablevision also announced that it had completed a recently-announced Optimum WiFi speed increase, doubling the service's downstream speed to up to 3 megabits-per-second (Mbps) - more than twice as fast as expensive data plans offered by cell phone providers over 3G networks.

"We are pleased to announce this considerable expansion of our Optimum WiFi coverage in New Jersey, including access at popular Shore Points, as our market-wide deployment continues," said Kevin Curran, Cablevision's senior vice president of wireless product development. "Optimum WiFi is free to Optimum Online customers, faster than expensive cell phone data plans, and being discovered by thousands of new users every week, who are taking their home or office broadband connections 'on the go,' to the places where they are most likely to appreciate and enjoy the convenience of reliable wireless Internet access."

Already the largest and most advanced consumer WiFi network in the nation, Optimum WiFi offers Cablevision's Optimum Online customers free wireless Internet access at speeds of up to 3 Mbps downstream and 1.5 Mbps upstream. Cablevision customers have already used Optimum WiFi more than a million times, as usage and awareness of the free product enhancement continues to increase. Additional information and detailed coverage maps are available at www.optimumwifi.com

In addition to its coverage in high-traffic and commercial locations like downtown areas, near parks and other outdoor locations, Optimum WiFi is also available on hundreds of commuter rail platforms and station parking lots in Cablevision's service area, including stations in Morris, Ocean and Monmouth Counties.

Current Optimum Online customers using laptop computers and portable WiFi-enabled devices like the iPhone, iPod touch and BlackBerry can access Optimum WiFi through a simple sign-on screen. Once a customer logs into the service by entering their Optimum User ID and password, the network delivers speeds of up to 3.0 Mbps downstream and 1.5 Mbps upstream. An estimated 300 million WiFi-enabled consumer electronics devices were shipped last year - a figure that is expected to grow to 1 billion devices by 2012.
