NJCTA Provides Policy Briefing for Legislative Staff on Broadcast Digital Transition
Trenton, NJ - Recently, New Jersey Cable Telecommunications Association Vice President for Legislative and Regulatory Policy Kate Tasch hosted a special policy briefing on the upcoming broadcast digital transition for New Jersey legislative staff.
The event, held in Union, NJ at the local Comcast facility, was well attended with staff representing seven local elected officials in attendance.
Joining Tasch at the policy briefing were staff from the offices of Senator Kean, Senator Scutari, Senator Weinberg, Senator Ruiz, Assemblyman Coutinho, Assemblyman Munoz, and Assemblywoman Spencer.
A congressional mandate has set February 17, 2009 as the official date for all broadcasters to convert their analog, over-the-air television signals to an all-digital format. During the briefing Tasch helped attendees better understand what the transition means for their constituents and provided answers for the questions that may be asked of New Jersey legislators about the upcoming change. One particularly useful facet of the briefing offered legislative offices information about how they can help constituents order discount coupons for converter boxes. If a constituent comes into a legislative field office, staff members are allowed to go online with them to help them order the discount coupons.
